Last year I made a "Bee Blower" (for blowing bees of super frames) and it worked a treat removing the bees without any apparent side effects.
It came about by accident when my wife handed me an old hair dryer saying can you repair that? To cut a long story short the heating element had gone and it only blew out cold air. I disconnected the heating element in case it decided to work again, and it makes a good bee blower.

Hello Mike. Sorry a photo isn't necessary, it appears that I might have mislead you! I normally drive the majority of the bees out of the supers with a "fume pad". Then I use the hair dryer to blow the last few stragglers of each individual comb, using it rather like a bee brush. I do not attempt to blow all the bees out of a full super which would probably require something more along the lines of a garden leaf blower than a hair dryer.
