Good day
I'm curently getting ready to join the ranks of those who keep bees as a hobby.
I had to give up my other hobies (skydiving, fishing, motorbikes) after a near fatal car crash, don't ask me why beekeeping as I don't recall having any notion to do so before my accident.
For my first post on here I have two questions.
I live a few miles from Edinburgh Airport and as my girlfriend is not too keen on me keeping bees in our garden as we have a two year old daughter, I approached a local farmer to seek permission to keep my bees on his land and he was happy for me to do so.
I only have one concern about the spot where I have been given the ok to keep my bees, it is only a few hundred yards from the main flightpath for planes landing at Edinburgh.
Question 1 - Do you think the noise could cause any problems for my bees?
Question 2 - As I'm recovering from two breaks to my back do you have any tips to reduce the likelyhood of back strain other than having my hive on legs?

Hi and welcome to the new forum the bees will be ok with the planes and should be no problem to make lifting a bit easier for you it might be a good idea to buy poly hives they are a lot lighter than wood and when if we get a summer :0 you could use a wheelborrow or trolly to move any supers overflowing with honey to ease the strain. if you need any advice give me a call on 01644440202

Just posting an hello to all on here. Been keeping bees for all of 9 months and interested in them all my life. Trying to keep my solitary colony alive during the cold spell and also trying to reintroduce British Blacks into Oxfordshire. Wish me luck. :-)

Thanks Mike, I'm glad the noise from the aircraft will not bother my bees once I collect them from yourself as I had visions of trying to find another spot before I got them.
My son says he's happy to help with lifting and as he's 6ft7 and built like a brick sh'*house, moving and harvesting shouldn't prove to be a problem.
Strange question this one - are hearing aids known to cause any problems with bees or vice versa, after my accident I now need to use two.
Don't know what happened to my user name (Buzz Lightyear) but what the hell - I'm Willie.

Hello all, First time I've entered into a forum. Been keeping bees for 19 years. Still not an expert. Was hoping to go commercial last year but have only gone backwards. Look forward to exchanging ideas
