2012 was my second season and during the winter I have lost 2 of my 3 colonies. They appear to have died because they were too few to keep warm because I can see no sign of disease and there are about 5 frames of Honey- ivy I think but may be diluted by syrup I fed in autumn. My question is can I leave the empty hive there and will the remaining colony clean out the frames or do I risk their health by doing that. I dont want to waste the drawn frames. What do you advise, please?

Hi I would not leave the 2 hives for the other bees this will encorage robbing. You need to remove the hives clean them out and you could give the other colony the frames of honey as long as your sure there is no problem with them. or better still use them as bait hives a see is you can pick up any passing swarms but you should move them away from your other hives ( remove all the dead bees)
